At the 43rd session of the General Assembly, the Working Group held a meeting to continue its consideration of international terrorism and the draft international measures to be taken by Members of Government to give effect to the right of the Organization to organize and control its activities, to the protection of missions and accredited individuals of terrorism, as well as measures to prevent, suppress, limit or punish terrorism. Upon the request of several Member States, the Working Group established the Ad Hoc Committee on Terrorism, which held its first session from 10 to 14 December 2001.

The second session of the Ad Hoc Committee, which was agreed upon as necessary given the amount of work ahead, will be held from 24 to 28 June 2002. By resolution 48/48, the Working Group continued to monitor and coordinate the introduction and implementation of measures to suppress international, considering the work of other relevant organizations with similar interests.

The Working Group continued its consideration of international terrorism at three meetings held under the chairmanship of Mr. Ralph Zacklin (United Kingdom). At the meetings, the Working Group considered, among other things, a proposal submitted by the United States on measures to protect national security and further values of the Commission concerning United Nations physical premises and its programs, funds, and agencies, as well as planned and forthcoming meetings of the commissions established by the agreements to consider that the concept of concluding other such agreements with other States. In considering the proposal, the Working Group had various relevant documents, as well as documentation on the protection of and assistance to victims of acts of terrorism and on the compilation of existing international conventions on terrorism and measures to combat terrorism and its actions.
